An analog, beginner-friendly sewing machine.

¶ Safety and Certification
- Needles are sharp! Secure any unused machine needles in their packaging.
- Do not place your hand under or above the sewing foot during operation.
Before every sewing session
- Check that the thread in the bobbin is the correct type and is threaded correctly. Check the bobbin unspools smoothly.
- Set the machine to a straight stitch, no width.
- Thread the needle. See "Threading the Needle" for details.
- Manually turn the balance wheel once forward, which should create one stitch loop. Pull the loop up through the slide plate, and then pull it under the raised foot. This will end in two tails, which should rest in the back away from you.
- Set the machine to your desired stitch type, width, and length.
End of operation and clean-up
- Power down the machine.
- Unthread the needle.
- Slide the bobbin winder back to its original position if moved.

Threading the needle is not much different than any other sewing machine. Here's a youtube video showing how. Additionally, the exact steps are given below.
- Always move the thread take-up lever to its highest point by rotating the balance wheel before threading.
This also moves the needle to its highest point.
- Draw from the spool, left into the notch at the top.
- Down below the tension notch.
- Up over the thread take-up lever.
- Down, slotting into the thread take-up lever.
- Around the guard above the needle.
- Through the needle front-to-back, and under the foot to the back.
- Ensure nothing is on the slide plate.
- Slot the empty bobbin on the shaft on top.
- Pull thread from the main spool, and wrap it halfway counter clockwise around the metal tension post on the top left of the Bernina. Do not wind the thread around the tension post.
- Wrap the thread it several times around the bobbin spool. Make sure it's wound in the right direction.
- Slide the bobbin shaft to the right.
- Power on the machine.
- Press on the sewing pedal, and watch it wind!
